Unreasonable Restrictions on International Access to West Papua

Eni Faleomavaega and Donald Payne are really serious on Papua issue. Their letter to UN General Secretary then followed by a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The new letter which was dated 5 March 2008, stressed on restriction on international access to Papua and West Papua Province. It is now clear that Eni Faleomavaega was really upset by the treatment during his visit on November 2007 to Papua. They even enclosed photos and DVD capture Indonesia military’s overact of force during Congressman Faleomavaega’s visit, then Eni conclude that the overacting military showed a pattern of Indonesian military’s misuse of force. Higher Tangguh LNG price

Hopefully the higher Tangguh LNG Price will also benefited Papuan.

JAKARTA, March 14 (Reuters) – Indonesia will ask China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) to increase its price for liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the BP-led (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research) Tangguh project in Papua, an energy watchdog official said on Friday.

CNOOC (CEO.N: Quote, Profile, Research)(0883.HK: Quote, Profile, Research), which has a 17 percent stake in Tangguh, has contracted to lift 2.6 million tonnes a year — about a third of its capacity — over 25 years to a new terminal in Fujian. Read the rest of this entry »


Papuan Should Watch Sustainable Multinational Projects

Confrontation will only worsening conflict in Papua. We should start to think and act wisely in mature manner. Investment News: Talisman Energy deal boosts competitive position in LNG market

Talisman Energy Inc. has acquired a 3.06% stake in the Tangguh Liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in West Papua, Indonesia for US$212.5-million through the purchase of CNOOC Wiriagar Overseas Ltd. The project, which is expected to produce LNG sometime in late 2008, consists of offshore gas wells, production facilities, pipelines and LNG plant facilities with operating capacity of 7.6 million tons per year. Call for consultation over Jakarta’s plan to further split Papua

A religious leader in Indonesia’s Papua has called for Jakarta lawmakers to consult with Papuans before going ahead with their plan to split their region into four new provinces. The West Papuans Refugees Ordered to Leave Site

What Indonesian government should do is to help west papuan refugees whenever they need help. This is not only an obligation in the view of humanitarian perspective, but  also an opportunity to show the world that the democratic Indonesia is attentive to human rights issue. Hopefully that the diplomatic ties between Indonesia and PNG can solve the problem of West Papuan refugees.
